Down by a run, the Rainiers assembled a three-run rally with two outs in the eighth inning as Tuiasosopo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 4-4. Garrett then capped off the late rally with a two-run single off Portland’s Joe Thatcher (5-2) to lead Tacoma to victory.

 

Denny Stark (3-0) gave up a go-ahead home run to Paul McAnulty in the eighth, but then settled in to pick up the win after one inning of relief. Former Beaver Jared Wells struck out two Beavers in the ninth inning to record his 20th save of the season.

 

Brian Myrow and McAnulty each hit go-ahead home runs to help the Beavers (70-72) maintain the lead for much of the game. But the bullpen conceded four runs over the final two innings as Portland suffered its sixth straight loss to Tacoma (78-64).

 

Making his first appearance with Portland since May 19, starter Josh Banks allowed just two runs and recorded three strikeouts in six innings of work in a no decision.

 

Myrow erased an early Tacoma lead with a three-run home run in the third inning to lift Portland to a 3-1 advantage. It was his second home run since rejoining the Beavers on Aug. 23.

 

The Rainiers chipped away at the Beavers’ lead late in the game with an RBI double by Luis Oliveros in the sixth inning and then tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh as Prentice Redman scored on a wild pitch from Portland’s Bryan Corey.

 

McAnulty crushed his 13th home run of the season in the eighth inning off of Stark to give the Beavers a late 4-3 lead.  

 

Myrow, Brett Dowdy and Matt Antonelli each recorded two hits to combine for six of the Beavers’ nine hits on the night.

 

NOTES:  Peter Ciofrone logged a base hit in the third inning to extend his hitting streak on the road to 30 games and has now reached base in 37 consecutive games away from PGE Park. Both numbers represent the longest such streaks in the Pacific Coast League this season … Javis Diaz made his Beavers debut on Saturday against Tacoma. He was transferred to Portland from Class A Lake Elsinore on Friday … Pitcher Bryan Corey allowed his first earned run since joining the Beavers on Aug. 21 with the wild pitch in the seventh inning.
